Family Dentistry Services
We offer a range of family dentistry services for our patients. Below are the standard services we provide.
Initial Oral Examination
During the oral examination, your dentist will look inside your mouth for symptoms like damaged tooth enamel, crooked teeth, receding or bleeding gums, dental decay, and more. The oral examination gives your dentist a chance to identify dental problems like periodontal disease, gingivitis, cavities, dental infections, and more. If your dentist does identify one of these conditions, they’ll discuss the next steps.
Dental Cleaning
See your dentist for a dental cleaning once every six months. During the procedure, the dental professional will use tools like scalers and mirrors to see inside your mouth and scrape away the plaque and tartar. When the dental professional is done, they’ll polish your tooth enamel.
Scaling and Root Planing
Scaling and root planing are services that we provide for patients who need a deeper cleaning than the standard dental cleaning. Often, people who need scaling and root planing are people who either have gum disease, or they’re at high risk of getting gum disease.
Scaling is the process of removing dental tartar from tooth enamel below the gumline. Root planing is the process of smoothing the roots to prevent bacteria from sticking to the teeth.
Scaling and root planing procedures are typically performed throughout two visits because these processes take longer than standard dental cleanings.
Toothaches
Does your tooth hurt? A toothache can be a sign of a cavity, damage to the tooth enamel, or even a dental infection. Toothaches can be a dental emergency. See the dentist as soon as possible. We’ll identify the cause of your toothache and recommend the next steps, whether that’s a dental crown, cavity filling, or even a root canal.
Cavity Fillings
When you have a cavity, fillings can prevent dental decay from worsening into a dental infection. Our cavity fillings come in two types: amalgam (silver fillings) and composite (tooth-colored fillings).
Extractions
When a tooth becomes too damaged, it needs to be extracted. Other times, tooth we recommend extractions when there isn’t enough space in the mouth for all the teeth.
Sealants
Sealants help protect your tooth enamel from bacteria and tooth decay. We recommend sealants for many patients, especially children between the ages of 6 and 14.
